GEMS Charity – June 2025 Update

The good people of Kibworth and surrounding areas you have done us proud once again.
The Clutter Sale at The Railway on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 May, was a resounding success. Despite the road closure, locals and visitors alike flocked to find bargains. From a painting of Market Harborough church to cuddly toys, everyone found something they liked. Thank you to Sam at The Railway for allowing us to hold the event in the carpark and making sure we had a lovely brand new marquee to display our goodies and a very big thank you to everybody who donated and purchased the clutter, it certainly was recycling at its best, raising GEMS Charity a whopping £1,856.97 – an absolutely fantastic amount. Kibworth and surrounding areas you have done us proud once again.
We are looking forward to Smeeton Open Gardens on Sunday 22 June, where a good number of villagers will be generously opening their gardens to raise funds for GEMS Charity. In addition, the King’s Head will also generously be hosting a plant sale, live music and BBQ at certain times throughout the day.
It’s not too late if you are interested in helping in any way – donating plants, making a cake, volunteering your time for a short while or if you like making crafts would you like a stall. If so, please drop us an email gemscharity@gmail.com
Stay after the open gardens to enjoy Brass on the Grass at 6pm on Pit Hill Allotments where Oddfellows Brass Band will be holding their yearly concert kindly raising funds for GEMS Charity.
Our annual GEMS Golf Day will be held at Glen Gorse Golf Club on Friday 22 August. Teams of four are £220 each. Contact any keen golfers you know to book a team. If you’re a single golfer, we can include you in a team. Local businesses can sponsor part of the event by our usual ‘hole sponsors’. If you’d like to donate, contact us at lyn.gemscharity@gmail.com or Fred on 07763 116 049.

We attended the official opening of the chemotherapy refurbishment, a true honour to see where your kind donations have been spent. Patients are very positive about the new environment, feeling much more comfortable. We thank everyone who supports us, as without them, we couldn’t do what we do.
We’ve placed a poem by Delia Hill on the balconies, along with some gardening tools to encourage patients to potter. Delia was a patient at the LRI and loved sitting on the balconies during her visits. Sadly, she recently lost her battle with cancer. We hope other patients will find comfort in Delia’s poem and the plants and flowers.
