Dear Editor

Kibworth & District Chronicle received the following letter. If anyone can throw any light on the whereabouts of the people mentioned please let me know. Editor (theeditor@kibworthchronicle.com)

Dear Sir,

I was evacuated to Kibworth in 1944 along with my mother and aunt; I was two years of age. The memories have come from my mother and my family, also some of my own which I think must be from a return visit after the end of WW2.

We were billeted with a couple, their surname was Partridge. Mrs Partridge was American. I believe she had a daily help, Mrs Penfold. Mrs Penfold had a daughter whose name was Eunice. I have a photo of myself and Eunice which I shall attach to this.

We became friends with Mrs Penfold who I called ‘Auntie Penny. At some point Eunice took me to Market Harborough and bought a book for me. I remember this was from a toy shop, the book was about ballet.

I believe Mrs Penfold visited us after the war because there is a photo of her on Trafalgar Square. I am looking for this photo.

Quite recently I Googled the name Partridge and to my amazement – there was an article which had been sent to the Kibworth History Society. (I understand this society no longer exists). The writer of the article had visited the Partridge couple and said Mrs Partridge was an American. The writer said the Partridges lived at The Warren, 39 Church Road, Kibworth. I don’t think this house exists now unfortunately, but the name Warren resonated with me.

I have for many years wanted to research the memories I have of Kibworth, this article has encouraged me to do this. I also would like to visit Kibworth, I understand there are two villages with the name Kibworth!

I would like to know if any descendants of the Partridge family or the Penfold – Eunice – are still living in the Kibworth area.
