Spinner Table Tennis

On a Monday night, whilst football players are in the cold and rain under floodlights in the dark, I am glad to repair to the Sports Hall at Fleckney Sports Centre, Leicester Road, LE8 8BG. Table Tennis is the ideal low-cost winter sport for beginners and improvers. All are welcome to a free taster of table tennis on our club night on Mondays. General play is from 7.45pm – 9.45pm and coaching from 6.45pm – 8.15pm. Coaches, Andy and Miriam, are ready to help you develop your skills. Three of our members play in Leicester’s Junior League and two of our juniors play with our 21 adults in the adult League. Players range in age from eight to 74; so don’t be shy, give it a go. What’s the worst that could happen?

League Match Notes

Our third and second teams played against each other in competitive games and gained some points. Mike Wilson got a max in the return match with some close games for the other participants. Fleckney 3 scored a win against KP’s 12th team. Respectability was restored when our first team met Desford and scored a 7-3 win. Congratulations to James Robertson. There were also victories for Nick Wyche and Eiz Al Katrib. This was followed in short order by a 6-4 defeat to Abbots Road 2, but at least one point was gained on a very competitive night. There was a nice win in the doubles for Rob Bateman and Pete Wilson, but sadly a 9-1 defeat overall against KP 11, who have three very strong players!

Fleckney 3 redeemed our reputation with a 6-4 win against KP 9 with our chairperson, Bob Palmer, winning all his games. October ended with a draw against KP 5. Jan Nix played a blinder against Sneh Joshi in an away game. Paired with Jeremy Bradley (new to the Spinners this season), she got a cracking win in the doubles match. Lee Towers picked up his first win when Fleckney 2 met Regent Sports 1 at the beginning of November.
