Charity Event at The Old Crown, Fleckney

GEMS Charity

Well, he’s done it again, Jeff Pearce organised a charity event in June at The Old Crown in memory of local Fleckney man Mic. It was a great day full of fun, music, fundraising and everything you’d expect from one of Jeff’s events.

Thanks to the Old Crown

GEMS received a whopping £1682.50 from the event. Our thanks go to The Old Crown, Jeff and everyone involved in organising and taking part in the day.

And, Glen Gorse

Glen Gorse Golf Club looked after us very well for our annual Golf Day, great atmosphere amongst the golfers who gave us some lovely feedback on the day, saying “It was a good to play at Glen Gorse and be amongst some lovely people, raising money for such a well worth charity.”

Many thanks to Kelvin Kempster, Lyn and Fred Grant for organising the event, Ju Ablett for doing a great job on the raffle, all the local businesses who sponsored the holes and D S Smith for sponsoring the prizes.

We raised a fantastic £1659.50 which is brilliant, and next year’s date is set already – Friday August 16th, hope to see many of you there.

Thanks to King’s Head

Many thanks Edd and Andy at King’s Head for the great quiz nights raising over £400 many thanks to John for setting the quizzes, we look forward to the next one.

Families have been very kind by giving Donations in memory of your loved ones. Our thanks and sincere condolences go to all the families, thank you for thinking of GEMS Charity at this sad time for you all.

One of them was for our friend and great supporter Alma Elcock. When we started GEMS all those years ago, Alma ran the Railway with husband John. She supported our idea and was very keen to get involved in fundraising giving us lots of ideas for raising funds and allowing us to use the Railway as a venue, which has carried on ever since. We have lots of lovely memories of Alma and will miss her greatly.

Closing in on our target!

Update on our project … we are so pleased that we are hopefully, in the next few months, close to our target of £660,000 to extend and refurbish the chemotherapy treatment area in the Osborne Building at the LRI. This will allow many more cancer patients to receive their much need treatment. Thank you all who have donated and been involved in our fundraising efforts.

Our fundraising continues, so watch out for our events.
