The Platinum Jubilee Orchard

The Platinum Jubilee Orchard, which is near Kibworth Primary School on Warwick Park, consists of 33 trees, all of which are varieties of Apple originating during the reign of the Queen.
The varieties mainly come from the UK, but also include some from Canada, France, The Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic.
These new Elizabethan varieties have in many cases been bred for disease resistance. So, hopefully will become some of the heritage varieties of the future.
The Orchard will also include a pasture type of grassland. Additionally, native species of flowers are to be planted as plugs by the Cubs and Scouts this April.
