Open Gardens Illston-on-the-Hill & Ukraine Appeal
Open Gardens’ Day: 30th April 2022, 10am – 4pm
In Aid of the Ukraine Appeal
Following the ongoing disaster in Ukraine, all funds collected during the Illston Open Gardens’ Day will be donated to the Ukraine Appeal.
Illston on the Hill is a small picturesque village of about 40 houses in south east Leicestershire . There is a fine Church which will be open, a children’s playground and the well appointed Village Hall. The Village Hall will serve teas throughout the day, and has toilet facilities. Car parking will be available outside the village and stewards will be around to assist where necessary.
The Open Gardens
Eight gardens will be open for visitors to go around and a map will be provided to give directions. Some of the gardens are large, and some are small. The gardens are by their very nature in various stages of development. To watchers of Gardeners’ World, this is where the real interest lies for the keen gardener.
Stephen Poyzer, the editor of the Kibworth Chronicle wrote a very moving article in the March issue, The article is entitled ‘I make no apology’. In it he spoke about the importance of community. We know the Ukraine disaster has thrown the Western world into turmoil. & the incomprehensible stress and upheaval the Ukrainian population are experiencing has drawn communities of the Western part of the world together.
We in the west are all thinking about how we can support those suffering in Ukraine, whether physically or by donations.
Visit the Open Gardens on 30 April
Please come and support Illston’s small way of adding to the Ukraine Appeal fund . The entry fee is only £5. I am sure that in these very exceptional circumstances the usual generosity of the British public will shine through.
We, the Illston Community, will welcome you with the same generous spirit, come rain or shine.
