Kibworth Harcourt Post Mill – Update

It’s been another busy year at the mill, with visitors from several groups coming to have a look around, in addition to the usual Open weekends in May and September, which were very well attended as usual.

We have also made significant progress this year by levelling the ground around the mill. Thanks to the expertise of Fred from Stanbridge and Sons and his digger! The ground looks superb having been re-seeded by Steven Briggs, for which we are very grateful. The level ground means that for possibly the first time since the mill last worked commercially in 1916, the volunteers can rotate the mill to face it into the wind in order that the sails can be turned under wind power. Well, that was the idea.…

Kibworth post mill update

Unfortunately, the exceptionally hot, dry weather this summer has caused some of the timber wedges to dry out, contract, and fall out of position. This should be fairly easily remedied by the Millwright when he next visits, so keep an eye out. Hopefully you will be able to see the sails rotating before too long.

We will be attaching the Christmas lights to the sails in December. So keep a look out for those too, as you can spot them from various vantage points around the village once the leaves drop from the trees.

If you might be interested in joining our merry band of volunteers to help with the maintenance and/or showing visitors around, please let me know and I’ll tell you more about it.

If you would like to visit, the mill will next be open as part of National Mills Weekend on the weekend of 8/9 May 2027, but small group visits can be arranged prior to that by emailing kibworthmill@spab.org.uk.
