Kibworth Art Lovers
The Kibworth Art Lovers’ new programme for 2026/27 began in September with a fascinating presentation and demo by professional printmaker, Kevin Holdaway.
Kevin was first introduced to printmaking by lino-cutting in 1987 as a technician at the Leicester Polytechnic. In 1988 he held his first exhibition in the Leicester TSB building. The following year, after travelling in Europe and creating extraordinary images of iconic buildings in such cities as Florence and Athens, he won the TSB Travel Award. Constantly learning new techniques for blending colours and creating texture and tonal variations, Kevin perfected his craft while travelling further afield to teach and display his work. Our members and visitors viewed inspiring printed images from the USA, Europe and China, showing how his techniques became gradually more complicated. Always returning to Leicester, Kevin was no less prolific. We viewed several prints of familiar iconic buildings, confirming his great enthusiasm for the urban environment, cityscapes and architecture.
Finally, we were treated to a demonstration of the basic principles of lino-cutting. Kevin chose the letters K-HUB in yellow, red and black and took just half an hour to achieve his print. Kibworth Art Lovers were kept highly entertained throughout and many showed an interest in attending Kevin’s workshops.
Our next meeting on Tuesday 27 October will be led by professional artist, Ian Cox. His work can be viewed on the Leicester Society of Artists’ website. We welcome visitors and new members to our monthly meetings.
Meanwhile, works by Hilary Willars are on display at the Kibworth MHBS.
