News from Smeeton Westerby – Oct 2026

After what seemed a social whirl during the last two months, things are pretty quiet here in Smeeton Westerby. However, as we head towards Christmas, the events really start to ramp up again.

The Kings Head

On the weekend 16 -18 October it’s Oktoberfest – a beer festival, serving a great selection of German lagers and wheat beers.

On Saturday 7 November, there’s a pub lunch at 12.30pm, but booking is essential!

Next, on Saturday 14 November, it’s the famous GEMS charity quiz night. Whilst on 18 and 19 November, it’s the French food nights to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau day with a three-course meal and Beaujolais wines.

The Village Hall

We now have our new notice board outside meaning our events can be displayed for everyone to see. Our next Coffee Mornings (CoCo) are on Wednesday 21 October and Wednesday 18 November. Do drop in for free coffee, cake and a chat. We open at 10.30am and close at 12 noon. Any donations go to LOROS.

With Christmas in mind, our next big event is our Christmas Concert on Friday 4 December. The Oddfellows Brass Band will be playing very up-beat music in the beautiful candlelit setting of Christ Church. Tickets are £10 each, to include mulled wine and mince pies. They can be purchased by ringing Philippa on 07748 878 027.

Then comes our Christmas Fayre on Saturday 12 December 2 – 4.30pm. As always, Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to come and visit us, and we purposely keep our prices down so that everyone can enjoy a bit of Christmas cheer. If you would like to have a stall, please contact Janet on 07950 409 610.

Christ Church

Although it may appear that nothing has been happening as regards the church wall, many discussions involving the diocese, arborist, Conservation Society, architects, Highways etc, have taken place to try to move this intricate and difficult project forwards. However, progress is being made and we hope to be able to inform you of the next steps in due course.

On Sunday 18 October we will be holding our all-age family service and on Sunday 1 November it’s our remembrance service which we combine with Holy Communion. This means that there will not be a service on 8 November as we will be joining the commemorative service in Kibworth. But then on Sunday 15 November we revert to our usual pattern of a family all-age service.
