Illston-on-the-Hill WI – Oct ’26

Folk passing by Illston village hall last Thursday night would wonder what was going on. In fact we’d forgive them for thinking contractors were in, doing major repairs – not a bit of it!! Michelle came to demonstrate how to decorate a tote bag. Not so interesting you might think, but think again.

Michelle supplied us all with a tote bag, a substantial piece of wood, some kitchen towel, a hammer and some flowers. What a combination! Well she showed us how to put the wood and kitchen towel inside the bag, then make an arrangement with the flowers and greenery – then cover with more kitchen towel – and finally bash the daylights out of it! Are you still with me?  The noise was at a different level – the first time the members were unable to chatter, but needless to say we made up for it later!

Amazingly the flowers stuck to the bag, loose petals brushed off and the result was absolutely stunning. Every design was different but equally as beautiful. The display on each bag was truly magical; we were all very pleased with our achievements.

The evening was completed with really scrummy refreshments and chat – all of us complementing one another on our evening’s achievement. What a great atmosphere. The WI has such a lot to offer, and Illston-on-the-Hill is a very special group of ladies.
