Kibworth Community Library – Autumn Talks and Activities

After a long, hot summer it feels like Kibworth has sprung back into life. The children are back in school, we’re all feeling energised, and Kibworth Community Library’s autumn programme is once again busy.

On the very first evening of the new school term, we had a good audience for Julie Harrison’s detailed and fascinating talk on leprosy and its significance to Leicestershire local history. We are now looking forward to an evening talk on Tuesday 22 September by local history enthusiast Richard Hill on ‘Cook’s First Voyage’. Tickets are on sale.

And the good news for those of you who have recently had problems with library acoustics is that we’re about to invest in a new speaker system. When you book we are always happy to reserve front row seats – just ask.

Looking ahead to the cooler days of October, we have a visit on Thursday 15 October from ‘Barn, Spun, Yarn and Farm’ – a talk with some handspun yarn from their own local flock of sheep, and woolly things available to browse or buy, then a delicious homemade lunchtime snack. Tickets on sale in the library.

A new writing group has recently started on the first Thursday of each month from 2.30 to 4 pm. New members are welcome. The group is enthusiastic, friendly and open to anyone who is keen to explore creative writing. They aim to offer positive, constructive feedback on one another’s work, and are receptive to all ideas which will help members develop and progress. For more information, leave your name and email at the counter and our group leader will contact you.

For younger library users

Our popular Tuesday morning slots for pre-school children continue to fascinate with Story and Rhyme Time followed by Stay and Play. No need to book, just turn up for a 10.15 am start.

Lego

Our long serving and enthusiastic Lego Club leader Richard Day has packed away his plastic bricks after 8 years of running the Club, initially alongside his wife Julia. We are grateful to Richard for his much valued commitment. Currently we are in discussion with potential new Lego leaders who are full of ideas to keep the club going and take it in some exciting future directions.

If you would like to be contacted with the date the Club will start again, please leave your details at the library counter. We have a good supply of genuine Lego bricks and love displaying the models made by the children. We welcome those aged 6–10, accompanied by a parent (or two). No need to book. Parents are welcome to make themselves a coffee while their youngsters build.
