Methodist Matters
After several years when KMC suffered no deaths amongst its congregation, during the recent past we have been faced with three individuals departing this life. Then, last month, the sudden death of Roger Garratt whose funeral was held in our church this Monday.
Roger Garratt
Roger has been connected with our church, St Wilfs, and various other local churches for very many years and the main tribute to him appears elsewhere in this edition. He will be greatly missed by this church, as well as the whole of Kibworth and the surrounding villages, in view of his full involvement with very many aspects of village life.
Roger regularly commented favourably to me about the content of this column; and in particular, about the humorous paragraph that I tried to include to balance the other items. It is accordingly appropriate that I include one this month:
A new business was opening, and a friend of the Owner sent flowers which arrived with a Card ‘Rest in Peace’. The owner complained to the florist who apologised but said ‘It could have been worse; remember that somewhere there will be funeral flowers saying: ‘Congratulations on your New Location’.
Roger had a firm faith and I am certain that we can all offer him ‘Congratulations on HIS New Location’.
This is the final edition of Kibworth & District Chronicle before it takes a summer break. Kibworth Methodist Church does, however, continue to meet every Sunday at 10.30am. You will be most welcome at any of our services.
There is, however, one major change taking place at the end of the summer term. For very many years, Jayne Hubbard has owned and run the Pre-School that has met on our premises. She has now taken the decision to retire and I am sure that very many children and their parents have a lot to thank her for. The Pre-School is not, however, closing but will continue to operate under new ownership with effect from the Autumn Term, hopefully for very many years to come.
