Editorial – May 2026- Issue 479

My proposal for a Kibworth Festival 2027 – a village of culture and fun was met with a mixed reception.

Whilst some groups are enthusiastic and are ready to embrace the idea others have just ignored the thought or is that the wrong impression?

Let me put some further thoughts out there for your consideration. Firstly, a time frame when such a festival might be viable would, in my opinion, be towards the end of August and into early September. The days are fairly light. Fair weather is certainly a possibility. Families are back from their summer holidays and younger children are getting ready for the new school term. Pensioners have not yet flown off for their autumn break. Time to have some fun!

Firstly, we could start with a mass picnic on Warwick Park on a Saturday afternoon. Families, street groups or just groups of friends would descend for an afternoon of fun and generally getting together.

I am sure someone could provide some music and simple games. French cricket,.anyone?

Sportswear

We all know some fantastic sporting facilities exist in the village which are the envy of other villages or even towns. Given the suggested window above, the cricket pitch, bowling green, tennis courts, football pitches and golf course should be in excellent condition so outdoor activities would be possible in all these spaces.

Drama and Music Week

Kibworth Band will be still participating in their summer concerts. However they could perform a short concert for the paying public in the suggested window.

Last Minute Theatre Company and Main Stage Theatre Company could come up with a special drama or similar.

Lets bring the community together.
