Leicestershire NGS Open Gardens over the next month.

On the 23 and 25 May, 11-5pm, Westview in Great Glen, LE8 9EH, an organically managed small garden packed full of plants and shrubs, including a courtyard, small pond, vegetable areas and recycled ornaments.
Opening Every Wednesday afternoon throughout June, 2-4.30, is Stoke Albany House, Market Harborough, LE16 8PT. A 4-acre country house garden; fine trees, wide herbaceous borders, a good display of roses, a walled grey garden; nepeta walk arched with roses, parterre with box and roses. Also a Mediterranean garden, heated greenhouse, potager with topiary, water feature and sculptures.
Opening on the 6 /7 June, 11-5pm, is 28 Gladstone Street in Wigston, LE18 1AE, a mature 70’x15′ town garden that is divided into rooms and bisected by a pond with a bridge. The garden has many unusual perennials and scented David Austin roses.
New gardens in Stonygate and Knighton
New this year, a group opening on the 7th June, of gardens in Leicester, LE2 1LW, at Stoneygate and Knighton www.ngs.org. There are six very different and interesting small and medium gardens displaying a variety of planting styles with a range of early summer flowers. The gardens are 3 miles south of the city centre with street parking at all addresses, except 20 Ripon St. Gardens are open from 12-5 pm, with one admittance fee for all gardens.
Westbrooke, Market Harborough
On Sunday 7 June, Westbrooke, Market Harborough, LE16 8AX, opens 10-4 pm. The gardens comprise 6 acres with mature limes and giant redwoods. Key features are a walled flower garden, and kitchen garden, a fernery, a wildlife pond, a Spring garden, lawns, woodland paths and a meadow with a wildflower area, ha-ha and hornbeam avenue.
Nevill Holt Hall, Market Harborough
Opening from Thursday 11 June – Sunday 14 June, the extensive gardens at Nevill Holt Hall, Market Harborough, LE16 8EG, from 10-9 pm except Sunday 14 10-7 pm. Spacious and well-proportioned, 10 acres of gardens were designed by Chelsea gold medal winner Rupert Golby. Highlights include 3 distinctive walled gardens, Italian, walled and font house and generous herbaceous borders showing off an ancient Cedar of Lebanon. Openings are in conjunction with the Nevill Hall Festival.
Brickfield House, Market Harborough,
Leicestershire, LE16 8XS opens Friday 19 June, 12-4pm. With lovely views overlooking the Welland Valley, this 2-acre garden has been developed from a sloping brickyard rubbish plot over 37 yrs. There is a kitchen garden, orchard, herbaceous borders filled with roses, perennials and shrubs, paths and many pots, filled with succulents, herbs and colourful annuals.
Somerby
No 10 High Street, Somerby, Leicestershire, LE14 2PZ opens Sunday 21 June from 11-4pm. This is a new garden opening, which was a 10 yr project turning a medium-sized plot of mostly car park into a garden. There are lovely terraced herbaceous borders, edged by a self-seeded dry gravel garden, with a courtyard, pool and terrace, kitchen garden, raised beds, greenhouse, small orchard and island beds. Pond with bog garden, and fern rockery lead to a sunken patio overlooking the horse pond.
Tresillian House, Melton Mowbray
Opening on Sunday 21 June from 11-4pm is Tresillian House, Melton Mowbray LE13 0BQ. ¾ acre garden with blue cedar trees, bog garden, natural pond, Koi pond, vegetable plot and a wide variety of shrub and perennial planting. There will be live jazz and a small art exhibition by local artists.
Thanks to our volunteers and visitors, in 2025, Leicestershire opened 37 Gardens and had 9,289 visitors, resulting in net donation income of £69,094.
