“Think not of the books you’ve bought as a ‘to be read’ pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood.” ― Luc van Donkersgoed
Did you know that there are up to four million new books published each year? That would be a seriously large “to be read” pile! How on earth do you decide what to read next?
Of course, we are always here to assist you in the library. But two great websites for book lovers are fantasticfiction.com and goodreads.com – both help you find books by authors you like and will guide you to new, similar, authors. Goodreads also lets you log books that you have read and create a list of the ones you want to read. Give them a try and just see where they lead you.
Book lovers are found in every country across the world and there is a wonderful range of terms for them:
- British: Bookworm – literally a devourer of books
- Old English: Book-bosomed – carrying a book at all times
- French: Ink drinker
- German: Reading rat
- Danish: Book horse
- Finnish: Book maggot
- Yoruba: Book tree
- Indonesia: Book flea
- Spanish: Library mouse
There is an old Chinese proverb that says “A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.”
Both can bring joy and comfort.
