Kibworth Mead Academy

The Spring term at KMA culminated in the GCSE Geography trip to Iceland. This was an amazing and fulfilling experience for the over 40 students and staff involved. Students had the opportunity to visit a range of incredible geographical sites, including Kerid Crater, the Bridge Between Continents, Skogafoss Waterfall, and the Secret Lagoon. A particular highlight for many students was visiting the Secret Lagoon, where they were able to enjoy the unique experience of bathing in geothermal waters. These moments provided not only relaxation but also a deeper appreciation of Iceland’s volcanic landscape. Evenings were spent together enjoying a variety of activities such as playing guitar, singing, and taking part in board games, helping to create a strong sense of community and lasting memories. Students returned to Kibworth in time for the Easter weekend. Many were back at KMA the next week for revision sessions in a variety of subjects.

The Curve and Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

Another end of term highlight was 82 Year Eight students being treated to an unforgettable trip to Curve Theatre to watch the exciting new musical Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. From the moment the cast came on stage, students were captivated by the production’s incredible staging and creativity. The dazzling set design featured moving stairs and clever transformations. Everyday objects like pens turned into swords before their eyes. One of the standout moments was the dramatic appearance of the lightning bolt, which seemed to magically emerge from Percy’s bag, leaving the students amazed! Our Year 8 students were exemplary throughout the trip, demonstrating excellent behaviour and enthusiasm.

Sporting success

It has also been a really positive Spring term on the sports field. Highlights included our Year Seven boys’ basketball team who produced a truly memorable performance in the County Cup Final against Hastings School at the impressive Morningside Arena. Competing on such a big stage was a fantastic experience for the team. They rose to the occasion with determination, resilience, and outstanding effort from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, the game was played at a relentless pace. Both teams matched each other basket for basket, creating a tense and exciting contest. The spectators were kept on the edge of their seats. The KMA boys demonstrated incredible work rate throughout. They fought for every rebound, chasing down loose balls, and showing real composure under pressure.

As the game progressed, it became an increasingly physical battle. Despite the intensity, the team never backed down. Their defensive effort was particularly impressive, with players supporting one another and showing great teamwork against a strong Hastings side.

The final score of 45–31 does not fully reflect how competitive the game was, nor the spirit and effort shown by the team. Every player gave their all and represented the school with pride.
