King’s Head Art Exhibition
Having lived, walked and run around the countryside of Kibworth and Smeeton Westerby for most of my life, it has taken nearly 40 years to return to a passion that began at school – drawing and painting.
For those who don’t know me, my family and I have been part of the Kibworth community for many years. We’ve been involved with the primary school (children and me, many moons ago!), the football club, and various local events. You may also have spotted me out and about in all weathers walking my Flatcoat Retriever, ‘Mabel’, along the lanes and fields of Kibworth and Smeeton.
I have always loved drawing and studied Art at GCSE and A Level before completing an Art Foundation Course at Leicester University. However, the pull of a secure job and buying a house in Kibworth led me into a career in banking and customer service.
A return to art.
Over the past two years, following my children leaving home, I have returned to art. The local countryside has long inspired me. I’ve taken thousands of photographs with the intention of putting marks on paper ‘one day’. Thankfully, that one day has arrived. After studying with the Open College of Arts in 2024, I now spend much of my time drawing and painting. I specialise in charcoal, pastel and acrylic, often combined as mixed media.
My work is inspired by the bridleways and footpaths, trees and landscapes, canals and towpaths that we are so lucky to have on our doorstep.
I’m very grateful for the support of our local businesses. Bridge 67 Butchers kindly displayed some of my work. The Kings Head, Smeeton Westerby, will be hosting an exhibition of my work on Thursday 16 April, 7–9.30pm with a glass of wine and cheese and biscuits. I’ll be there to chat about my inspiration and processes and I also welcome enquiries about individual landscape commissions.
If you’re unable to make the date, you can view my work at www.rebeccascanvas.com or on Instagram @rebeccas.canvas.
