Creative Writing

How many of us dream of writing a novel? Or a play? Or some poetry? But we often don’t know where to start. A blank page can be incredibly daunting even if we have an idea in our head of what we want to write. We have recently received some requests from people for a regular Creative Writing Workshop at the library, to be led by a published writer.
Creative writing is the art of using words in original ways. Forming characters, expressing emotions, creating whole new worlds out of your own imagination. Joining a creative writing group can provide a supportive environment where you can get feedback, critique and motivation from your peers.
If you are interested, please pop in or phone us on 0116 5076969 during opening hours to put your name down as a possible group member. We need to gauge the level of interest, then we will contact you to discuss details. If there is sufficient demand, we will put this on in the library.
Several people have asked where our regular monthly Book Sales have gone, so from April we have decided to return to holding them on the second Saturday of the month. This will correspond with the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital’s table-top sale and coffee morning. Our March sale is on Saturday 14 March from 10am till 12pm. April’s will be on Saturday 11.
Westminster Life – Tales from a Parliamentary Staffer
On Thursday 16 April we are delighted to welcome Ciaran Dowling to the library. Born and bred in Northampton, with family here in Kibworth, he is now a Parliamentary Assistant in the Palace of Westminster.
In “Westminster Life – Tales from a Parliamentary Staffer” Ciaran will be telling us what the day-to-day running of Parliament is like, and the responsibilities that staffers have in supporting the MP that they work for. You’ll also learn something about the fascinating traditions of Parliament, and the geography and history of the building itself. Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start. Tickets are on sale now for £6 and include tea / coffee and biscuits.
