Same-day Appointments

The NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR)
Would like to hear your views about same-day appointments, to help shape improvements to services in the future.
People can complete a questionnaire, which asks for their views and experiences of appointments they might have had when they needed help quickly, such as at their GP practice or a local pharmacy. All residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can take part, with a specific questionnaire for each of the three areas.
Getting Care Quickly is Important
Dr Sulaxni Nainani, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board, said:
“We know getting care quickly is important to people, particularly from your GP practice. There are now more same-day appointment options than before, and at a wider range of locations, such as pharmacies, urgent treatment centres and other health centres. Understanding how these services are working for local people will help us make improvements in the future.”
In addition, the local NHS is also raising awareness of a new two-step approach to getting care quickly called ‘Need help fast?’. The questionnaire asks for people’s views about this approach and the same-day appointment options which it is the gateway to:
• Step 1: Try to manage the problem yourself or get help from a local pharmacy, NHS 111 online, or the NHS App.
• Step 2: If that doesn’t work, or the problem is more serious, contact your GP practice or NHS 111, (when your GP practice is closed). They will help book you the right appointment in the right place. This could be at:
- a pharmacy (through the Pharmacy First scheme)
- an urgent treatment centre
- your own GP practice
- another GP practice or health centre (during evenings, weekends and bank holidays).
If it’s a life-threatening emergency, people should go to a hospital Emergency Department or call 999.
