Kibworth Memorabilia
Carole Craig has handed the Kibworth & District Chronicle another item of Kibworth memorabilia – a copy of the Kibworth Carnival programme for August 1978 – the year the Chronicle commenced publication.

The carnival ran for a week starting on the Sunday afternoon with a Children’s Sports event and then in the evening a [Kibworth Junior] band concert at Kibworth Bowling Club. Monday – Friday evenings consisted of Mixed ‘It’s a knockout’, Gents’ six-a-side football, Boys’ six-a-side football and Girls’ rounders, a talent show, a whist drive, Ladies’ cricket match, eight-a-side Tug-of-War, and a singalong to the Johnny Lester Band. Saturday was the [famous] Wheelbarrow Race starting at the Lodge Hotel where participants visited the following hostelries Three Horseshoes, Rose and Crown, Coach and Horses, The Railway, and The Old Swan for a swift drink!
Later the same day a Carnival Parade around both Harcourt and Beauchamp took place finally ending up at the new High School Playing Fields where the whole of the village congregated to watch the finals of many of the above competitions. “Those were the days!”
