The Kibworth Art Lovers’ Society started its 2025/26 season last month with a demonstration of watercolour painting by Andrew Geeson, one of our most popular visiting artists.

Andrew started his painting career as a botanical artist which led him to doing illustrations for books. His subsequent desire to experiment with a looser style proved to suit his considerable creative and artistic talent and he now devotes much of his time to sharing his passion for ‘loose watercolours’, and encouraging others to have a go.

Most of his works are accomplished in no more than an hour, and so our members and visitors watched him create two paintings.

The first was of a pumpkin where the paint was applied to wet paper using only four brushes.

The second portrayed a landscape with a house surrounded by trees in the moonlight. Andrew’s chatty style was much appreciated and we learned a great deal as he talked us through the process.

In our next meeting on Tuesday 28 October at the KCH from 7pm, Leicester artist, Helen Newton, will show how she uses gouache to create her beautiful highly coloured paintings. Her local scenes are particularly popular in Leicester. (helennewtonartist.co.uk)
