Kibworth Mead students return from Summer

Students have come back from the summer holidays with a really positive attitude and have collectively achieved over 118,000 reward points for demonstrating our values of work hard, be kind, be proud, which bodes really well for the school year.

Year 11, in particular, have impressed us with their hard work and positive attitude. There were record breaking numbers attending the nearly 20 revision sessions on offer each week. Tutor times have been a whirlwind of revision timetable planning. Students have planned each day leading up to their November mock exams. Our mantra has been the old Mars slogan of getting a balance of ‘work, rest, and play.’ We are proud to see so many Year 11 also engaged in sporting and other activities too.

Our Year 7 continue to impress us with how well they have settled into secondary school life. They have made the most of every opportunity, from sports fixtures to band practice, to library helpers and Warhammer club. Coding club, Creative writing club and our latest addition, the Lego Robotics club have been particularly popular with our youngest members of the KMA family.

Last month, a group of Y10 and Y11 Spanish students visited Barcelona to explore the language and the culture.

Over an action-packed four days they visited many sights including Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and Nou Stadium. The weather was kind to them so they were able to enjoy a visit to the beach in the September sunshine. In addition, they honed their cookery skills by taking part in paella, gazpacho and chocolate making workshops, before enjoying the fruits of their labours with a sit-down meal. On the fifth day they flew home, exhausted but smiling!

At KMA we seek every opportunity to promote reading.

This includes weekly library lessons for students in Y7-9. Last month following assemblies on why reading is important, we hosted an author visit, with support from Kibworth Books. We were delighted to welcome multi–award-winning author Tamsin Winter to speak with our Year 9 students. Tamsin shared her journey to becoming an author, spoke about her previous works, and introduced her latest book, I Dare You. Our Year 9 cohort were fully engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and immersing themselves in this exciting opportunity to hear directly from such a talented writer. It was a truly inspiring experience.

Also last month we hosted our Year 6 Open Evening We were overwhelmed with the numbers of visitors keen to see what KMA has to offer, with well over 600 visitors in attendance.  We had over 150 KMA students keen to act as student ambassadors and helpers, sharing their pride in their school. Since Open Evening we have run school tours most days, and the positive feedback that we are getting from the local community is really heartening.
