Kibworth Community Library – Sept 25

“The times they are a’changin’” ~ Bob Dylan
The next month is going to be full of change for all of us here at Kibworth Community Library and, by default, for all of our customers. We are moving into our new home at the Kibworth Community Hub at the beginning of October!
It’s been a fun, and slightly stressful, few months, working through the logistics of the move, but everything in now in place. On Thursday 9 October at 11am we will close the doors on our small, but perfectly formed, library on Paget St for the final time.
Kibworth Library’s history began in the 1860s, initially as a reading room and library within the Village Hall. In 1929 we became a dedicated library with our own premises in what is now the Old School Surgery. We’ve been on our current site since 1967, when the Kibworths were much smaller than they are today, and we still had a railway station, although that closed in 1968.
In 2006 we became Kibworth Community Library, initially funded by Leicestershire County Council but gradually becoming self-sufficient. Completely run by volunteers we now get no funding at all. We became a charity in 2018 and we have evolved from being a small collection of books to a centre of the community offering a variety of activities and events.
All being well, we will reopen in our new space at the Hub on Monday 27 October at 10am. We look forward to welcoming you all!
Relocation Book Sale – don’t miss it!!
Before we leave the existing library, we do have a few more events planned. Our last Book Sale will be a mega one as we want to take as few with us as possible. Pick as many books as you like for a donation! It doesn’t get any better than that, does it? So, come along on Saturday 13 September (and bring a large bag with you!). The sale runs from 10am till noon.

Finding Gold in Hallaton
Doesn’t everyone dream of finding something ancient, shiny, and possibly valuable? In 2000, the Hallaton Fieldwork Group did just that, making a nationally important discovery right here in Leicestershire. It included over 5000 gold and silver Iron Age coins and the famous Hallaton Helmet. Come along to hear Linda Jones from the Hallaton Museum talk about Finding Gold in Hallaton on Thursday 25 September at 12pm, doors open at 11.45am. Tickets are on sale now in the library for £6 and include a drink and savoury snacks.
This will be our final talk as Kibworth Community Library in Paget Street but we are busy planning more exciting events to hold in the near future. Watch this space!
