News from Smeeton Westerby

By the time this goes to print, we will have just finished running our two murder mystery evenings, performed for us by the Main Stage Theatre Company. These are always really popular nights which meant that the group were able to perform to capacity audiences. We have to thank the cast and crew for putting on two such professional and enjoyable shows. The profit is going towards our excellent new sound system.

Then on Wednesday 18 June, we held our CoCo – Coffee and conversation – morning.

And finally, we are holding our Driving Treasure Hunt on Sunday 31 August to which everyone is once again invited. Starting at Tur Langton Village Hall at 2pm, you will be able to explore our beautiful countryside on that side of the A6. Collecting clues as you drive around that will lead you back to a BBQ at The Kings Head, Smeeton. There is no need to book a place but please ring Janet on Tel:07950409610. This is so that we can gauge the interest to see how many sausages and burgers for the BBQ.

Christ Church

On Sunday 8 June, we held our Outdoor Summer Family Service at Janet and Gordon Arthur’s house. With beautiful views over the countryside and the weather being kind to us, we had a most enjoyable time. Starting with breakfast of sausage and bacon rolls, we then moved on to the service, led by Janet Gilbert. It was lovely to see so many people of all ages and participating with such a joyful spirit.

On Thursday 29 May, we welcomed relatives and friends of the late Christine Stock for her funeral and interment. It was a beautiful service.

We were then also delighted to welcome Izzy and Ben as they declared their vows to each other on their wedding day on 14 June. What a beautiful service that was. With the excellent voices of the Kibworth Ladies Choir singing too, it made it all so very special for this lovely couple.

The Kings Head

On Wednesday 2 July at 8pm, it’s Jazz Night with The Fourmasons and then on Tuesday 15 July, it’s Steak Night from 7.30pm. For this, booking is essential. Then on Thursday 24 July, the Braybrooke Morris Dancers will be performing from 7.30pm and ploughman’s platters will be available to purchase.
