As a result of this summer's drought, the locks closed to traffic on 29 July and remained closed until 27 October. Canal & River Trust (CRT) made a considerable fanfare of the reopening. This included a substantial piece on BBC East Midlands TV.

To an artist, the benefits of sketching are invaluable according to professional artist and teacher, Helen Neave. In the November meeting of Kibworth Art Lovers, she demonstrated & spoke about the way she uses her own sketches when completing an artwork. Not only is sketching useful for training the brain, improving observation skills and hand-eye co-ordination. It also transports the artist back to the atmosphere of the moment. Notes taken whilst sketching remind the artist of subtle details to be included in a finished piece of work.

Those Kibworth and District Chronicle readers who watched the Remembrance Day Parade and service in Kibworth will have noted a somewhat larger Kibworth Band leading the parade. Those extra bandsmen were members of our Youth Band. We were delighted with their participation, which will hopefully guarantee the continuation of the parade for years to come.

As fairy lights are starting to adorn houses, Christmas trees are being decorated and wreathes appearing on front doors, we welcome Christmas to our village and send you all the very best of the season’s greetings. Having held our Christmas Fayre and The Oddfellows Brass Band Christmas Concert, our next two celebrations will also be held in Christ Church.

A well researched bias in thinking, that to a greater or lesser extent many people hold, is known as the just world hypothesis. It links to ideas like karma and sayings like “what goes around comes around.” Essentially, it is the belief that people get what they deserve. Such thinking can help to give life meaning, it can help us to cope with hardship, it can promote prosocial behaviour, and we might feel a bit better if we believe those who wrong us will get theirs one day. It can encourage the belief that those (including ourselves) who are doing nicely must deserve to. It can encourage the glorification of leaders or those perceived as successful, and it can promote trust where none is due.
