One of the most respected composers of English Church music, performed worldwide in both choral and organ settings, was a former York Minster choir member whose work included conducting and advising in Europe, the USA and the Antipodes. He retained a strong sense of humour throughout his life and died at his home in York on Monday 5 January. He always felt he owed so much to his formative years as a pupil of Kibworth Beauchamp Grammar School.

Kibworth & Fleckney Rotary Club Golf Day

On Friday 15 September, Kibworth and Fleckney Rotary Club held their annual Charity Golf Day at Kibworth Golf Club. At one o’clock the 18, 4-ball teams teed off simultaneously, a shot gun start, from all 18 tees. We were lucky with the weather and, after a fun round of golf, the teams all congregated back at the clubhouse for a buffet meal.

Beryl Tory: a life well-spent

Vera Beryl was born to James William and Vera Emily Weston; a little sister for Maurice, she became known as ‘Beryl’. Growing up to be a fighter in more ways than one - older brothers can do that to you. Beryl was very sporty as a teenager including cycle racing. When she left school she went to work as a seamstress. She continued to make clothes for her family and became very good at many crafts.

Tribute to Noeleen McCluskey

Noeleen, born on Christmas Eve 1932, grew up in Cumbria with her siblings. Her father, a farmworker, eventually bought his own farm. She recalled tough winters, long school walks, and digging sheep out of the snow.
