Kibworth & Smeeton WI – January 2024

Skittles

Our December activities began on the 11th when our skittles team played against Loddington WI. The match was held at The Rose and Crown in Thurnby. The skittles alley, which was decorated with greenery, Christmas baubles and lights, looked really festive.

Despite Kibworth losing the first three games, they had great fun. Especially when one of our team, who shall remain nameless, pretended to put a spell on a Loddington player, who then ended her turn on a duck! This prompted a good deal of laughter. Kibworth made a good comeback to win the last two games, so didn’t disgrace themselves! The combination of a lively and friendly contest and good pub grub had the two teams agreeing that it had been a great evening.

Christmas Party

On 14 December we held our Christmas party in the KCH hall. Tables were decorated with lights, tinsel, table confetti and bright napkins. Members brought their choice of food for sharing. It never ceases to amaze us that each year we have such a varied and delicious buffet, a good balance of savoury and sweet dishes to tempt us. Wine and soft drinks were served at the tables by the committee, with tea and coffee later.

Members could put their heads together to answer a fun table quiz. Followed by trying to identify the 30 different items contained in ‘feely bags’ put together by Judith Greening. Causing a lot of discussion and laughter.

Our President, Beverley, thanked people for their contributions throughout the year. This included Wendy Food who brings a beautiful flower arrangement to each meeting, Plus three ‘willing’ husbands who turn out each month to set out and pack up the hall for our meetings. We held a Secret Santa and enjoyed a lovely session of festive songs organised by Bruce Moffat. Bruce had everyone joining in while he accompanied us on the keyboard. Thank you Bruce. It was a very relaxed, fun evening and a fitting conclusion to a busy year.

Into 2024

We will begin 2024 with John Parnell who will entertain us with ‘Circus Skills and Hoola Hoops’. Then at our February meeting Julie and Ian Harrison will talk to us about their South African trip. We continue to meet on the second Thursday of each month, at 7.30pm in the KCH.
