Kibworth Mead News

Kibworth Mead Academy

It’s been a wonderful yet busy month at KMA.

As part of our celebrations for World Book Day we had the pleasure of a visit from Bali Rai, the well established, award winning and hugely popular voice within the young adult fiction market.  Mr Rai is passionate about promoting literacy and reading for pleasure. This was evident in the talks he gave to students, who were enthralled to hear Mr Rai talk about his books and his inspiration as a writer.

‘…It was a pleasure to meet you and spend the day working with your pupils. They were great – and it was lovely to get a feel for the school that my own child might attend. My visit to KMA was a real delight and it was wonderful to meet everyone. Both the staff and pupils were attentive, engaged, and great fun to work with. A perfect school visit! …Bali Rai

Another highlight this month has been our Year 10 trip to the NEC.

As part of Careers week, Year 10 had their very first school trip to ‘What University, What Career? Live’ at the NEC in Birmingham. They got the opportunity to meet many of the UK’s top universities and employers. This gave them an opportunty to find out more about apprenticeships and higher education opportunities. They were able to take part in a packed programme of talks covering everything from university funding options to acing apprenticeship assessment centres, and try a range of interactive activities to help them take their next steps with confidence.

As one student stated: ‘The NEC was much bigger than I expected, and all of the stands were so informative. Each stand offered such amazing opportunities in different areas, and their expertise really helped me to decide what I want to do after college‘.

The excitement is building for KMA’s first musical performance, School of Rock

In addition to the above, the excitement is building for KMA’s first musical performance, School of Rock, which will be performed at Kibworth Grammar School on 18-19 April 2023. Rehearsals are well underway. The cast, choreographers and musicians are working extremely hard to get the show suitably polished for opening night on the 18th April 2023! If you want to share the power of rock with the amazing cast then please contact KMA for tickets.

Finally, Wednesday 1 March was National Offer day, when families across the country found out which secondary school their child will be attending. We are so delighted that compared to last year we have had more applications and more students joining us. We have written to all families who were successful in getting a place at KMA to wish them a warm welcome as they join us in September. You may have seen that Leicestershire County Council was in the national press due to some administrative issues around the admissions process. We have had a number of families contact us regarding this. If you were hoping to get a place at KMA but were not successful please contact admissions@kibworth-tmet.uk.
