County Cup Report

Kibworth Cricket Club: Umar Afzal & Aadil Ali
Umar Afzal and Aadil Ali hold the County Cup

As we reach the business end of the 2021 season, our first senior team silverware of the season has made its way back to Kibworth Cricket Club. We played Loughborough Town at Leicester County Cricket Club on a fantastic Sunday afternoon. Our 12 man squad, made up of 7 players that have come through the juniors at Kibworth Cricket Club, had a superb day winning by 8 wickets.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Loughborough made a steady start reaching 52-1 before losing 4 wickets for 6 runs.  Loughborough scrambled to 104 all out with Aadil Ali taking 4-25 in his 8 overs. There were two wickets a piece for Josh Cobb and Monik Patel, one for skipper Darren Shaw and a great piece of fielding from Luke Spence with a run out.

In reply, KCC were comfortable chasing, Aadil showing great form with the bat finishing 53 not out in an 80 run partnership with Matt Craven.

Other matters

In the league, our 1st team are also battling Loughborough for the Premier Division title. We are currently 18 points ahead with two games remaining, so this will go down to the wire with Sileby and Ivanhoe left to play.

Our 2nd XI will finish as the highest ranked 2nd XI in league cricket after a great season in Division one. With only 5 losses from the 20 games so far, the feeling amongst the players has been very positive.

The 3rd XI can mathematically still be promoted from Division Four, but will be results dependent over the last two games, whilst the 4th XI have challenged brilliantly in Division 7. Both teams have had a great blend of youth and experience with the junior members contributing significantly through the season.

Our women’s section have been up against it. In a very strong division, they have battled valiantly without much success but continue to turn up, play hard and leave with smiles on faces.

Another summer has flown by for the juniors and their last training sessions have taken place. However, for the U11s, U13s and U15s we are going to offer ‘Masterclass’ sessions on Friday and Sunday throughout most of September. These sessions will focus on specific skills and will be coached in smaller groups. As soon as we have finalised the sessions and dates, we will update our website which is the best place to get club updates.
